Traditionally, there is a reluctance to allow an electronic system “to take control” in a sports car. So if a manufacturer decides to opt for such a system, intuitive usage and perfect integration into the existing cockpit are paramount.
The ability to quickly grasp visual elements is key. That’s why the traditional side view in Active Cruise Control mode was dropped in favour of a more intuitive bird’s eye view, simply because the quick assessment of the driving situation leaves no time for lengthy interpretation. Additionally, a highly emotional, dynamic brand experience was created. Driver alerts were incorporated seamlessly into the design along with details like the compass or the exterior temperature.
We also designed a haptic usage concept to ensure the handling of the electronic assistants was as direct and effortless as activating the accelerator. In this study the steering control lever was examined and redefined for the entire electronic assistant system.
