Interaction with all senses

When developing user-friendly interfaces for the household appliances of Bosch and Siemens Home Appliances GmbH, we are not only concerned with their visual output. Acoustic hints, warnings, or alarm signals improve human-machine interaction and increase brand recognition.

The act of pressing a button, its visual realization in the interface, the corresponding acoustic feedback – when all actions of an appliance have been coordinated seamlessly, interaction with the appliance grows more transparent. The more senses the interaction process involves, the more focused the user’s perception becomes, which in turn heightens the appliance’s usability.

Intuity developed a sound workshop for BSH, where experts from the product design, marketing, and engineering divisions could explore and review the soundscapes of the new appliances. Our Sound Courses guiding the BSH project team through voice, music, and brand typologies helped define and develop the unique function sounds of each appliance.

Based on the results of the workshop, a comprehensive audio interaction profile encompassing all appliances was created. It strengthens the brand’s acoustic brand and helps facilitate users’ convenient and consistent interaction with their household appliances.

Our friends at Audity assisted in the development.
