The Google timeline view
“Viewzi brings all your favorite stuff together in one place in a new and highly visual way”
I recently stumbled across this search service and I think it’s worth a deeper look. Browsing through its interface is a constant source of inspiration. Let’s have a look at what makes the service worth talking about.
Different search views for different situations
In contrast to traditional search engines, viewzi is providing a very visual interface to explore search results. The viewzi team has created a bunch of different views that you can switch through in order to see different perspectives of the same search terms. They’re utilizing the power of sources like google, amazon, techchrunch, etc. and provide a new look at their data. Here’s a quick list of my favorite views:
- Google Timeline View
- Everyday Shopping View
- 4 Sources View
Caring about the details
What viewzi is very good at is caring about small details in interaction design. The interface is therefore delivering a different kind of search experience. For example the interaction you get with related books at the bottom of the amazon book search view:

Helping you to explore.
The future of search?
This may be one of the possible future faces of search and the web. People can generate all kinds of different views on the same raw data. Future interfaces might provide simple tools empowering people to remix and and transform data themselves.

Found some more visual based search engines that might be interesting as well. The experience using these engines might not be as good (and joyful!) as viewzi – but good to compare alternative concepts and solutions:
Thankx for all the links! I like the Image Swirl approach to show similar and related images. The transitions are a bit too heavy.
