Here comes another great video back from 1984 that shows Nicholas Negroponte presenting some of his projects and his predictions for the “future” of Human-Computer-Interaction. Most of the stuff he’s talking about has really had an impact on the evolution of Interaction Design.
Books, books, books…
As always when people are talking about the future Negroponte is stuck in his present world of media terms. For example he predicts interactive applications and environments like you find them today on every corner of the web. But the funny thing is that he only talks about “books” or “movies”. One could say he’s envisioning stuff like Flash Authoring Tool and the Web Video Revolution. Also a lot of

Is that the first line of Actionscript? :-)
One Dollar Laptop and Teleconferencing
It’s interesting to see the roots of the one dallor laptop project. He’s talking about his first efforts to bring programming skills to kids in a language they can easily embrace. And he goes on to talk about a very interesting teleconferencing project.
Forget about Keynote and Powerpoint
Another aspect that brings a smile to my face is the presentation technique used by Negroponte which I think is very impressive for 1984. But the presentation itself is stored on huge discs. Negroponte even has to change them during his presentation. Awesome!
