Poken is another online service lets you collect and share contacts. But there’s a difference to your usual online community: Poken is connected to the real world.
Exchange through gestures
You can buy your individual poken which is a small buddy that carries your contact information for you. Through a gesture you exchange this information with others just like you have done it all your life before facebook and xing.
“To connect to a friend, simply do a ‘high-four’ with the two pokens’ little hands. You will feel a magnetic pull between the hands when they are properly aligned: palm-to-palm. The data communication lasts about one second, so you can pull them apart after 1 or 2 seconds. The pokens’ palms glow green if the connection is successful.”
Contact youtube to see how the whole process works in detail.
Rise of the Web-Gadgets?
Poken is a quite good example for web service that’s focused on human interactions which are augmented through the creative use of technology. I think we’re gonna see all kinds of different gadgets combined with web services in the near future. Poken, Kindle, touchatag and nabaztag might be just the tip of the iceberg.
