Selection > Mobile car configurator for Audi
Using Audi's online configurator internet users can 'build' a car tailored to their individual needs and preferences. They can also download information on products and dealerships. The Berlin-based software developer Das Büro am Draht was asked to devise a web application that would also serve portable devices. Intuity developed a user interface concept and initial visualisation that served as a basic model for the overall technical implementation of Audi’s Pocket Guide application.
Mobile car configurator
- Task
- In order to elevate Audi's configurator platform to a portable application, a simple concept with high usability and equally high level of comfort was required. The challenge was to apply the web tool to portable electronic devices such as mobile phones and PDA's with small screens and limited input options.
- Solution
- The concept featured user-friendly navigation on two levels, a clear menu and a continuation of the clear visual language associated with the Audi brand. The aim was to increase usability of the tool, adding a sense of playfulness to handling the Audi Pocket Guide application.
- Result
- The Audi Pocket Guide represents more than merely the creation of another communication channel. Potential car buyers are no longer confined to configurating their car anonymously at their PC. They can take their 'creation' with them on a portable device, show it to their friends and colleagues, and discuss and adjust their choices. It offers another step between information gathering and the purchase of a new car. In 2007, our client and network partner Das Büro am Draht received the international Red Dot Award for this concept.
